F.Y.I., Mah Jong means "Sparrow Tiles" (a reference to the "twittering" sound when mixing tiles), and is closely related to the Rummy family. There is little standardization in the rules of Mah Jong, and variations abound, by culture and by region. The major differences in the American version are simplified rules that forego much of the original Chinese ceremony, and a large increase in the number of legal special hands.
