Senet is the second oldest known game (next to Mancala) and is the oldest known board game. Stemming from the pre-dynastic period of ancient Egyptian history (cira 3500 B.C.) Senet has a strong influence on the civilization. By the era of the New Kingdom (1567-1085 B.C.), Senet became a common token to take into the afterlife and is even referenced in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. The modern game of Backgammon (which is ancient in its own right) is believed to be a direct ancestor of this very historic game. (Source for history Wikipedia)
This version of the game is styled after the boards found in various tombs of the Pharaohs. The sides of the board are illustrated with reproductions of hieroglyphics found on 3,000 year-old papyrus. True to the original style of play, our version of Senet has 4 throw sticks (in place of the yet-to-be-invented dice) with movement and gameplay similar to Backgammon. This rendition with a wooden storage case that has a pullout drawer for storage and measures 16"x 5".
