Canasta Caliente is not your usual Canasta. The addition of the Caliente cards makes strategy even more important. No more grabbing the prize. You just use your Caliente card and you\'re back in the game. No more red 3\'s to worry about. There are four bonus cards worth 100 points and are played like the red 3\'s, but you don\'t get 800 points for getting all four (i.e. just 400 points). There are more wilds in this game and that can affect your strategy almost as much as playing the Caliente card., The one show stopper on the Caliente card is it is only worth negative 100 points. You have to hope what you pick up is worth at least 100 points. Sometimes it\'s not and you take a beating. I could almost play this game until the cows come home or midnight whichever is the latest.
