Though they are both good, Builders and Traders is the better of the two expansions for Carcassonne. First of all there are more tiles with different landscapes on them. More different tiles are always welcome!
Some of the new city tiles also have commodity symbols on them, wheat, wine, or cloth. When you complete a city, you get commodity tokens for all of the symbols in the city you just completed. You get them even if you don’t get any points for the city yourself, so you might find yourself completing cities just for the tokens! At the end of the game, whoever has the most tokens of each of the three commodities gets bonus points.
The other extra pieces are the pig and the builder. You can put the pig on a field where you have a farmer already. When you score that field at the end of the game, you get an extra point for each city that touches the field.
The builder you can put on a city or road where you already have a follower. After that, whenever you place a tile that connects to that road or city, you get to draw and place another tile! This lets you expand your terrain features really fast.
The new tiles and pieces add a lot of new options to Carcassonne. At only $12.00, Builders and Traders is definitely worth it!
